1. Prenatal Vitamins
Finding the right prenatal vitamin during the first trimester can feel like an impossible feat. With nausea and food aversions at their peak, the last thing you want is a vitamin that makes you feel even worse! Many prenatals also lack key nutrients or come in horse-pill sizes that seem impossible to swallow.
Thankfully, I discovered Pink Stork prenatal vitamins! They were a game-changer for me. Not only did they contain all the essential vitamins and minerals I needed, like iron and calcium, but they were also easy to swallow and didn’t have that awful metallic taste some prenatals have. Plus, they came in small capsules which made taking them a breeze, even when I was feeling my worst.
Remember, every mom-to-be is different, and what works for one might not work for another. It’s important to consult with your doctor to find the prenatal vitamin that’s right for you.
2. Antiacid Relief
On top of the constant nausea, heartburn became my unwelcome companion during the first trimester. It seemed like everything I ate caused indigestion! Thankfully, I discovered that antacids were a lifesaver on those particularly rough days. Chewy Tums were my go-to because they provided fast relief and didn’t leave that lingering chalky aftertaste some antacids do.
Remember, it’s important to follow the recommended dosage on the label or consult your doctor for the amount that’s right for you.
3. Stretch Mark Oil / Lotion
Stretch marks are a common concern during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester with all those hormonal changes. Finding a good moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and supple is essential to help prevent stretch marks.I experimented with a variety of lotions and oils, but these three stood out for their focus on ingredients that promote skin elasticity and hydration, like shea butter, and Aragon oil. Remember, consistency is key! Make sure to moisturize daily, especially after showering or bathing to lock in moisture.
While these products worked for me, every mom-to-be’s skin is different. It’s always best to consult with a dermatologist or doctor to find the skincare routine that’s right for you.
4. Pregnancy Books
I definitely would recommend getting a Pregnancy book. It doesn’t have to be “What to expect when you’re expecting” (However I highly recommend it). It could be any Pregnancy book really. Especially if you are a first time mom! There was a lot of things that I had learned from reading this book that I had no idea about. Like the importance of fetal development milestones or what to look out for as I got closer and closer to my due date.
While ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’ is a classic, there are many other fantastic pregnancy books out there. A good book can help you understand further about what your body is going through. There are so many books out there, such as books that focus on natural pregnancy, childbirth options, or even twins! Find one that sparks your curiosity and offers information that resonates with you.
5. Migraine / Headache Mask
Headaches and migraines are a common complaint during pregnancy, and I was definitely not immune! For a while, I felt like over-the-counter pain relievers were my only option. However, as a soon-to-be mom, I was hesitant to rely on medication regularly. So I started searching for safe and natural solutions I could use at home. Fortunately for me I was able to find a solution that I feel worked great!
During my first trimester, I discovered cold therapy masks and found that one in particular worked wonders for me. These masks are typically filled with a gel that can be chilled in the freezer. The coldness helps to reduce inflammation and numb the pain of headaches and migraines. While the mask wasn’t exactly portable for work, it was a lifesaver when I got home. Fifteen minutes with the mask on my head, combined with some quiet relaxation time, became my go-to headache and stress reliever.
If you’re experiencing headaches during pregnancy, talk to your doctor about safe pain management options, and consider trying a cold therapy mask at home for some relief!
6. Epsom Salt
The first trimester threw my body for a loop. Constant changes, hormonal fluctuations… it felt never-ending! A steaming hot bath with Epsom salts became my haven during that time. Epsom salts are known for their magnesium content, which can help soothe sore muscles – a major pregnancy complaint! Plus, the warm water worked wonders on relaxing my entire body.
Adding a few drops of lavender essential oil to the bath was a game-changer. You can even find a lavender scented epsom salt. Lavender is known for its calming properties, which helped me unwind and prepare for sleep, another pregnancy struggle for many. If you’re looking for a natural way to relax and soothe your body during pregnancy, consider trying an Epsom salt bath! Talk to your doctor to see if it’s right for you.
Remember, always consult with your doctor before using essential oils during pregnancy.
7. Morning Sickness Ginger
Let’s face it, morning sickness is a real struggle for many pregnant women especially during the first trimester, myself included. Finding ways to manage it can feel like a constant battle. Ginger has long been known as a natural remedy for nausea, and I decided to give it a try. While some women swear by raw ginger, the taste just wasn’t for me. Instead, I found ginger ale and ginger lozenges to be more palatable options. I particularly liked these ginger-mango lozenges made by Pink Stork because they provided a sustained dose of ginger throughout the day and helped curb nausea whenever I felt it coming on.
It’s important to note that what works for one person might not work for another. Ginger may not completely eliminate nausea, but it can definitely help!
8. Favorite Snacks
The first trimester was a battlefield when it came to food. Keeping anything down felt like an impossible feat. I constantly felt hungry, but the thought of most foods made me nauseous. Thankfully, I discovered that nuts were a lifesaver! They were delicious, filling and didn’t smell horrific not only that but they also were a good source of protein and healthy fats, which kept me feeling full and satisfied for longer stretches. Plus, they were small and easy to keep on hand for those moments when nausea hit, but I still needed a little something in my stomach.
I experimented with different types of nuts, and found that Sahale nuts worked best for me. If you’re struggling with nausea and food aversions during pregnancy, don’t give up! Experiment with different healthy snacks to find what works best for you to keep your energy levels up and your tummy somewhat settled.
Of course, be sure to consider any nut allergies you may have before reaching for a handful.
9. Pregnancy Journal
For first-time moms, pregnancy can be a whirlwind of emotions, physical changes, and new experiences. Keeping a pregnancy journal can be a wonderful way to capture it all.
Pregnancy journaling isn’t just about documenting milestones. It can help you:
- Track your physical and emotional changes week by week.
- Record your hopes, fears, and dreams for your future baby.
- Preserve special moments like your baby’s first kick or ultrasound images.
- Reflect on your journey and create a lasting keepsake for yourself and your child.
There are two main types of pregnancy journals: guided journals with prompts and blank journals for complete creative freedom. Consider what works best for you. If you enjoy prompts and structure, a guided journal might be ideal. But if you prefer flexibility, a blank journal allows for complete personalization. Pregnancy is a truly special time. Starting a pregnancy journal is a beautiful way to commemorate this journey and create lasting memories for yourself and your baby. So grab a notebook, pen, and get ready to document this incredible chapter of your life!
10. Water Bottle
Lastly, staying hydrated is crucial throughout pregnancy, especially as your body is working hard to support a growing baby. A reusable water bottle is a great way to ensure you’re getting enough fluids throughout the day. It’s not only better for the environment than disposable bottles, but it can also help you keep track of how much water you’re drinking. Choose a water bottle that’s a convenient size for you to carry around and that you’ll enjoy using. Consider features like insulation to keep your water cold, a straw for easy sipping, and a wide mouth for easy cleaning.
Congratulations! You’ve taken a big step towards navigating the exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) first trimester. Remember, every pregnancy is unique, and what works for one mom might not work for another. Listen to your body, prioritize your well-being, and don’t be afraid to ask your doctor for guidance. Most importantly, enjoy this incredible journey of creating new life!
